The natural look and contrast between the quill and the valley of Karoo Collection’s genuine ostrich leather are created by using only transparent dyes. This means that the leather is naked and quite vulnerable to staining and light exposure.
It is normal and expected that both natural and artificial light could cause the color to fade. We recommend that you store your Karoo Collection piece in the cloth bag that comes with it, which will also protect the leather from dust.
Periodic cleaning with a soft, detergent-free damp cloth is sufficient to keep the leather in good condition. Should you wish to further protect the leather, a good quality commercial water-repellent may be applied to the clean article periodically as well.
The leather may, overtime and through use, darken where exposed to hand and body oil as they will be absorbed by the leather. This is entirely normal.
Should any oil come directly into contact with the leather immediately sprinkle with talcum powder to help reduce staining, although some marking is likely to occur. Applying direct heat or ink should be avoided, as this will mark the leather permanently.
The exotic beauty of a Karoo Collection piece can be enjoyed for many years if these simple guidelines are used. Enjoy your style!
